Shwaas, a Marathi film -best film is India's entry to the Oscars

Shwaas, a Marathi film which won this year's national award for best film is India's entry to the Oscars for the best foreign film.

But for a low budget film like Shwaas the biggest problem is money.

In a bid to give the film a fair chance at the Oscars, Amitabh Bacchan today contributed to a unique fund raising campaign for Shwaas.

The actor handed over a cheque worth Rs 1 lakh to the team of the Marathi film.

He however, admits that his contribution is a drop in the ocean. ''I do not know how much they are falling short of, but in my own way I have a small contribution. I know it is a drop in the ocean. But right now every drop matters," said Bachchan.

Apart from Bachchan's contribution and that of Sunil Dutt who pooled in Rs 50,000, there has been no contribution from Bollywood.

The film requires Rs 1.5 crore for publicity in America among Academy members.

People related to stage, culture and the Marathi film industry have scraped together Rs 65 lakh
